It was a sunny but still smoky day as we made our way the final few miles to complete our full circle tour of Lake Superior. There were several short road repair and building delays along the drive. Canada has a long term plan to expand the Trans-Canada Highway to four lanes which seems like it will be difficult in the mountainous areas.
This time we chose to stay in Soo Locks Campground in the city. It’s located right on the St Mary’s River. Our site had a river view but it backed onto a small inlet with a dock we could walk and where boaters could tie up.
A game for many people here is boat watching. The passing ships are a mix of “lakers”, who are restricted to the Great Lakes because of their large size, and “salties”, which include all kinds of ocean going freighters. Ships pass frequently and people track which ones are going to pass by. They do so using apps like BoatNerd that uses ships’ AIS (Automatic Identification System) transmissions to let them know which ships will pass by and when.
Ever the beach girl, Sandy wanted to walk one. It was a nice day so we went to Sault Ste Marie’s Sherman Beach where Sandy walked and Bill sat in the shade and read.
For dinner we made salmon accompanied by green beans and corn on the cob.
After dinner we joined another couple sitting by the river chatting and watching several freighters go by.

We had fond memories from our earlier stop in town of Oh! Crepe. So, we started our day there with crepes, a strawberry cream one for Sandy and a traditional breakfast one for Bill.
Bill worked on the blog and read, Sandy went to a U-pick blueberries farm and checked out some of the shops in town. She didn’t find much in the shops but came loaded with three pints of blueberries. Guess what we’re having with our breakfasts!
We departed from our usual sorts of fare for dinner. We cooked up some fresh pork sausage accompanied by mashed potatoes, gravy and carrots. Sort’a like down home Lancaster County! All that was missing was the sauerkraut and pie.
And, of course, we returned to watch more “action” of boats passing through.
