The door/screen door combination on the EKKO is a solid, sturdy setup. However, there are a few deficiencies it its design. First, the magnet that helps the two parts swing together was too weak. Second, in order to open the door and screen door together you had to operate both the latches. Finally, the slide panel in the screen door couldn’t be operated from the outside.
The magnet had only the head of a small steel screw to cling to and it was just too small. A short piece of steel bar stock made a larger object for it to cling to but it was then too difficult to pry them apart. A nylon washer glued to the steel bar provided just enough separation to fix the problem.
We installed a small bungee loop just below the screen door latch to hold it open when we’re using the combination so now we only have to open the main door latch when they’re operating together. Finally, a small cabinet knob installed near the edge of the screen door slide panel gives us a handle to open the panel from the outside.
