In May of 2016 a group of eight people embarked on a month-long trip to explore the highlands of Bolivia and Peru, lands of the Incas. We were all members of the Kick ‘n Gliders Nordic Ski Club of Harrisburg, PA. The organizer and leader of our trip was David Walborn. The son of missionaries, David grew up in South America and had long been an avid student of the Incas.
Others on the trip included David’s wife, Maria, Nancy Borremans, Mike & Pam McMullen, Bill & Sandy Stine and Bridget Zolman. The video below covers the first three, intense weeks we spent exploring Inca culture. The crowning events of our itinerary was hiking the classic Inca Trail and exploring the ruins of the Inca’s fabled Machu Picchu.
Not covered in the video is the trip’s finale. We finished with a flight to Rurrenabaque on the east side of the Andes Mountains where we traveled by boat to the Chalalan Rain Forest Lodge in Bolivia’s Madidi National Park. There we spent a few days exploring the jungle surrounding the lodge. Returning to Rurrenabaque, we then traveled rough, dirt roads to stay at another Eco-Lodge near Santa Rosa de Yacuma to explore the lush grasslands of the pampas.
Besides organizing the trip and leading it, David was key to creating the video. He consulted on our approach to telling the story, helped sort through and identify the more than 9,000 photos and video clips taken during the trip and writing and editing the thirty-page script. Many thanks for his help!
