Final Episode of “2025 on he Road”

2025-09-09 – Home

Our drive home was only a couple of hours. Happily, everything was in good order as we expected because Sandy’s sister and her husband check up on things regularly and our neighbor, in addition to emptying our mailbox every day, keeps a close eye on things.

We quickly restarted the water heater and softener, unloaded the camper, ran a couple of loads of laundry, showered and returned the camper to the storage lot all in time to make it to trivia with our group at Big Dog Brewery.

Whew!

A Few Notes

Some statistics from the trip:

  • We were on the road for 105 days.
  • We camped in 50 different places.
  • We put 5,828 miles on the camper, towing our car the whole way.
  • We did not keep track of the number of additional miles on the car.

So, what are our take-away thoughts from this year’s wanderings?

  • Some people worried that Canadians would resent us because of Trump’s Tariffs. We felt no evidence of that. In fact, upon a purchase some businesses included a card with the following picture on the cover:

  • Most of us east coast dwellers vastly underrate the wonder of the Great Lakes. They are huge, magnificent and compare quite well to anything we find along the Atlantic. To boot, they are salt free and nothing in the water wants to eat you!
  • The sheer number of beaches, waterfalls, lighthouses, museums and other attractions around the lakes is bewildering.
  • The slow pace we keep gives us time to appreciate the in-between places which most travelers never even think about. In fact, we’ve determined that we need to go even slower.

To Our Readers

This blog goes out to 154 people. That’s a lot but, from the website statistics, it appears that at least half of you actually read at least part of it.  We appreciate that you do so, especially those who also provide feedback.

I (Bill) made a choice not to open the blog for comments. If you have thoughts about that please let me know. Opening up for comments is a simple option for me to implement.
